Kastom Gaden Association

Kastom Gaden Association is an indigenous registered non profit organisation (charitable trust) in the Solomon Islands

KGA is pleased to share the successful establishment of savings groups in Hambere and Ghatere communities!

This initiative represents significant milestone in strengthening our ongoing projects and extending support to rural operating sites. The program went from 1st to 5th June, 2026.

We are encouraged by the strong interest from the women in these communities. Participants were highly engaged and showed great potential for income generation by targeting accessible markets.

KGA acknowledges the WARA Team (West Are’are Rokotanikeni Association) for facilitating Financial Literacy and Good Governance training, as well as supporting the establishment of Savings Clubs for women in Hambere and Ghatere, Kolombangara.

These activities were conducted under the CRFPI Project, led by Pacific Farmer Organisations and supported by the Australian Government, and implemented by KGA in the Solomon Islands.

All photographs were captured in Hambere and Ghatere

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐈𝐅𝐂𝐄 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔: 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬’ 𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞

This morning, the Pacific Farmer Organisations team met online with the Women Empowerment Officers from our three member farmer organisations implementing the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade-funded Climate Resilient Farming in the Pacific Islands (CRF-PI) Project:

🌺 Mele Asena - Growers Federation of Tonga 🇹🇴
🌺 Crystal Koale – Kastom Gaden Association 🇸🇧
🌺 Annie Welin – Farm Support Association & Syndicat Agricole et Pastoral de Vanuatu 🇻🇺

The meeting was held in preparation for the upcoming Pacific Innovation Forum for Climate and Environment (PIFCE) hosted by SPREP, which will take place in Vanuatu from 1–3 July 2026, where PFO will host a side event highlighting locally led approaches to climate resilience monitoring.

The side event aims to:
✅ Showcase a practical case study of a locally led resilience monitoring approach developed through the CRF-PI Project.
✅ Demonstrate how community-defined indicators can improve the relevance and effectiveness of resilience measurement.
✅ Share lessons learned from farmer organisations applying the approach in practice.
✅ Facilitate dialogue on how locally led monitoring approaches can be adapted and integrated into climate resilience programmes across the Pacific.
✅ Promote greater recognition of farmers and communities as active contributors to knowledge generation and decision-making.

As the regional voice of Pacific farmers, PFO remains committed to ensuring that farmers' experiences, knowledge, and priorities are represented at regional and international platforms. GROFED, KGA, and FSA are among the 7 farmer organisations implementing the CRF-PI Project across 7 countries: Fiji, Timor Leste, Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, helping communities strengthen their resilience, food and water security of Pacific farmers by helping them adapt to the threats of changing climate and natural disasters.
